Trailer Repair: how we handle it

Trailers live a hard life: loaded heavy, dropped on gravel, backed into ditches and parked in the weather. Hinges wear out, ramps bend, welds crack at the corners, and rust gets into the tongue and crossmembers where you can’t easily see it.

A trailer that’s cracked or rusted in the wrong place isn’t safe to pull. We cut out the bad steel, weld in new, square things back up and paint it. One of our recent jobs was a dump trailer whose jack mount plate had rusted through: we cut it out, welded in a new plate, set the jack post square and painted it.

Common problems we fix

  • Broken tailgate or ramp hinges

Worn pins, snapped hinge tabs and ramps that won’t sit flat. We weld on new hinges and line them up.

  • Bent or cracked ramps

Ramps folded by a heavy load or dragged on the ground. We straighten or rebuild them.

  • Cracked frame welds

Cracks at corners, crossmembers and spring hangers. We grind them out and re-weld them solid.

  • Rusted frames and crossmembers

We cut out the rot and plate or replace the weak section.

  • Tongue and jack mounts

Rusted-through jack mounts and cracked tongues. We weld in new plate and set the jack square.

  • Add-ons

D-rings, toolbox mounts, side rails and other small additions welded on where you need them.

What’s included

  • Looking over the frame around the damage
  • Cutting out cracked or rusted steel
  • Welding in new steel, plate or hinges
  • Squaring up gates and ramps
  • Grinding the welds smooth
  • Primer and paint on the repair

Can’t move it? We bring the welder to you, whether it’s in your driveway, your yard or on a job site. If it’s easier to bring the trailer to us, that works too. Just tell us when you text.

Small repairs are welcome. A single hinge is worth fixing before it fails on the road.

FAQ

Trailer repair: common questions

Do you come to the trailer, or do I bring it to you?

Either one. We’re mobile, so we can weld it where it sits. If you’d rather bring it to us, say so when you text and we’ll set it up.

What kinds of trailers do you work on?

Steel utility, equipment, car hauler, boat and dump trailers: gates, ramps, hinges, frames, tongues and jack mounts. Send a photo and we’ll tell you if it’s something we can fix.

Can you fix a rusted trailer frame?

Usually, yes. We cut back to solid steel and weld in new metal or plate. If a frame is rusted too far to be worth fixing, we’ll tell you honestly.

Do you work on trailer lights, brakes or axles?

We’re welders, so we stick to the steel: frames, gates, ramps, hinges, tongues and mounts. For wiring, brakes and bearings, a trailer shop is the right call.
