Rust had eaten the bottom out of the lock box on a mesh security gate. We cut out the rotten steel, welded in new metal around the lock, and painted it to match.

The plate under the jack on a dump trailer had rusted through. We cut it back to solid steel, welded in a new plate, set the jack post square and painted it.

A steel door frame was rusting out where it meets the floor. We masked it off, ground out the rust, repaired and smoothed the jamb, then primed and painted it.

Rust repair
Humidity and rain rust gates, trailers and steel door frames from the bottom up. Painting over it doesn’t last: the rust comes right back through.
What lasts: cut back to solid steel, weld in new metal, grind it smooth, then prime and paint. The photos here are a steel door frame we repaired that way.
